These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, a lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.

A man's heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.

The beginning of strife is like releasing water; Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts.

He who has knowledge spares his words, And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit. Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive.

A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. ... As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

"It is good for nothing," cries the buyer; But when he has gone his way, then he boasts.

He who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own Is like one who takes a dog by the ears. Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death, Is the man who deceives his neighbor, And says, "I was only joking!"

He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.

"Vanity of vanities," says the Preacher, "All is vanity." ... Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man's all. For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil.

You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.
